Carpe Diem and Stuff
Nothing beats the freedom of summer vacations. We all remember counting down to those last days of school and the release we felt racing to the exit and into the incredibleness of do-whatever-you-want land. It was perfectly sweet. And there are few things in this world like it... or are there?
Why think of freedom as a limited resource?
Put your adventure cap on and make this the summer of funtastic productivity. Did you think that productivity and fun were mutually exclusive? Sometimes the more fun you’re having the more productive you become. Just concentrate on smaller burst of work mixed with burst of fair weather amusement. Maybe follow your next client meeting with a water balloon fight. Design a logo and cream pie your friend in the face. Write a blog and run through a sprinkler. Create a marketing plan and ride your bike down the street with no hands. Whatever makes your heart sing—do that!
No moments need to be wasted.
Carry your sketchbook with you to the beach, the park, your romantic picnic, on your next hike and to the pub. Laptops were designed for more than making the most of your time on airplanes and in boardrooms. Yes, you can work at your local cafe with the free wifi, but what about expanding your territory to your grandparent's deck in Nova Scotia or a cool B&B in Costa Rica? You can work on trains, while at the zoo watching cranes or travelling in Spain. Just stay out of the rain.
Are we having fun yet?
You could be one ice cream sandwich away from an incredible idea or the solution you've been looking for. Allowing yourself to have a break can do wonders for your productivity. And don’t go out for a slurpee with a grimace on your face thinking the entire time that you should be at your desk replying to emails and how this errand for icy sugar is a waste of your time. That will never do!
Is it work or play?
Did you ever consider that it could be both? Unless you're working in a factory and breathing in toxic fumes on a daily basis, it's generally a matter of perspective. So the question is, "What type of summer are you going to have?" Put work and play together in your blender and pour yourself the taste of summer 2017!
