You Deserve a Trophy
Unless you’re playing professional sports or regularly applying for industry awards, it’s unlikely that anyone will give you recognition for anything you do beyond a social like or comment. So if a thumbs-up emoji or two isn’t going to keep you motivated you need to figure out what else will and serve it up for yourself.
Who’s your MVP?
Do you know who your most valuable player is? No matter how big your team is that MVP is you. Yes, you. Go look at that pretty face in the mirror and smile as you pat yourself on the back. The dream your chasing wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for your brain. Even if you’re part of a larger team, you’re a unique piece of the puzzle. If you’re suddenly swapped out the picture changes.
You need your ego.
Are you feeling a little conflicted? Are you accustomed to putting your ego in the backseat and letting everyone else enjoy all the credit? Well we have news for you, if you don’t step up and soak up some of that “vitamin yay” you won’t make it to the next checkpoint. You need validation to fuel your inner fire. Humans invented awards to boost the feel good factor and keep us motivated to push harder and go further.
Don’t shortchange yourself.
Believe it or not your ego plays an important role in your success. Yes, we live in a world that’s obsessed with putting our ego in check—and rightfully so. When everyone you meet is posting content on social media to showcase all the amazing things going on and not the crappy stuff it starts to feel like a competition to win. Survival of the fittest is part of life, it’s just that what it means to be the fittest has changed. You no longer need to be able to kill your food to live.
Drum roll please!
Here to present the award to yourself is you. Don’t like the word “award” because it sounds too fancy with the high-achiever status? Give yourself a reward for all that you do. Reward. It’s like an award that you can give yourself and do it on the regular. Give yourself a little reward today. Do it.
