Whether you know it or not, this is peak season for retailers. We're now one month into the biggest sales quarter and Halloween is tucked nicely behind us. It's time for thoughts of sugarplums to enter our minds and find out who's got who for secret santa this year.
Don't get in a buying frenzy.
Giving the perfect gift is the name of the game. Gift cards can be a great option, but they often get lost or are never used for other reasons. Money wasted is never a good feeling.
Protect yourself by looking for good value and invest in things that will:
- Stand the test of time, be that through durability of the materials or through style. Fashion trends are great for distracting us in the moment and generally won't prove to be worth the investment down the road.
- Make you feel confident about them long after the purchase has been made. This can be felt in knowing there is service available if you have an issue or simply knowing it was done properly the first time.
- Serve an actual purpose beyond the instant gratification of the purchase. This is a tough one, especially since buying gives so many of us a rush.
Purchasing tangible things can often be perceived as easier than purchasing services, because you can see it and touch it. With services we often rely on testimonials to help us with our purchasing decisions to ensure we can trust what we're being sold. Buying junk leaves us all with a frown, so this year let's make our grandparents proud and focus on quality over quantity.
