Ideas are fickle things. They are a bit like tiny bubbles carrying thoughts to you or popping suddenly; those darn dropped thoughts. If you know ideas like we do, well, they come and go as they please and won’t show up at all if you don’t welcome them properly. By that we mean that you need to give them space and an open door by which to enter. You can’t say no to everything and worry about time wasted—creativity doesn’t believe in wasted time, it believes in using time differently.
Sometimes you need to force yourself to leave a problem and do something else entirely. When you shift your focus, you allow your mind a minute to wander off and find interesting solutions for you. It’s as though you have a helper rooting through a magical jungle of creativity and bringing back treasures for you to consider. You’d never find these gems without giving creativity freedom to roam.
It doesn’t matter what you’re working on, whether it’s a social media post, a new campaign or a fun logo, it’s important to relax and enjoy the process. When we take ourselves too seriously we put barriers on our creativity and end up holding ourselves back. That’s a rational and very adult instinct, but let loose and be free to allow your mind to wander.
Get off your computer and pick up a pencil, make something fresh.
