We all go through phases where we feel the pressure to push through to finish large projects for an unrealistic deadline, but those times take huge tolls on our overall health. Our bodies need regular sleep and a lot more of it than we tend to dedicate towards genuine rest. Recharging your batteries is an important part of your overall journey to success.
If you're having difficulty focusing and you can't think of any good ideas, you might have a sleep debt that needs to be paid off. How much debt your in depends on how long you've been trying to get by on less and less. When you consistently shortchange your need for rest, it eventually catches up with you.
You know you need a nap if you are:
- Snappy for no reason
- Low on patience
- Out of good ideas
- Unable to solve simple problems
- Struggling with easy tasks
- taking longer to complete stuff than normal
- Losing focus easily
- Experiencing brain fog
- Falling asleep
Avoid creative burnout by counting sheep.
Do you often forge ahead even though you know you should take a break? Stepping away is a great start, but shutting your brain off and giving yourself a timeout often requires more than a diversion onto something else. When the creative juices aren't flowing the best thing you can do is sleep. Your subconscious mind can do a lot of work while you're resting away. Oh, the sweet solitude of a good slumber. Can you feel it now? You sink into a soft couch and close your eyes. It’s divine.
