Lauren Hom: Just Focus on the Snacks
“Everything can’t matter to you.” —Lauren Hom
Lauren Hom describes herself as a typical creative; she works all the time. Her personal motto is to work hard and snack often. Lauren believes in work for employment and pleasure.
Keep it all snack-sized.
She loves snacks both figuratively and literally. “Snacks” are things that bring you joy and fulfillment, says Lauren. They’re small and satisfying bites. Take as many snack breaks as you do work intervals and be kind to yourself, she says. That’s been key to her creative success.
For example, Lauren makes lots of projects just for fun and shares them online. This gives her more traction with her work and—bonus—can lead to new client work. Plus, Lauren loves self-initiated projects. They’re way more fun than being told what to do and for her, art feels best when it comes from inside.
You deserve your support.
Lauren wants people to treat themselves with the same empathy and support as they would their friends and partner. She believes kindness should extend to one’s self. She also likes to live a curated life, which means surrounding herself with people who are on the same frequency as her and who think in a similar way. She and her partner can often be found sitting side by side working on their passion projects.
Where does your time go?
How you spend your time defines you, Lauren says. Find your people, find your work focus, and pursue your own priorities, not someone else’s. All she does is draw and eat. It’s a good life.
