Patrick Faller: Go After What You Want
When someone invites you to a good party, you show up. And that is exactly what our founder Elise Russell did when writer and media strategist, Patrick Faller invited us to chat with speakers during CAMP Festival 2017. Obviously, we wanted to hear from him too. Here's what's what with Patrick:
“It’s hard to live with misaligned priorities.” — Patrick Faller
When Patrick Faller realized what he was doing wrong, everything changed. He was working too much and was unhappy. He’d tied in his self-worth to what he was being paid and, well, it wasn’t enough. He was working rigid hours and overtime, but not really getting anywhere.
Get over yourself.
He made the jump to freelance writing and entrepreneurship and started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Patrick’s journey included overcoming personal insecurities that his skills weren’t as valuable as the skills of others. He worried that he would always need a company to pay him. Life can surprise you when you take a leap of faith. Patrick found that people were willing to pay good money for what he does as a writer and editor.
You decide what you’re worth.
At the start of entrepreneurship, Patrick learned that he was underselling himself to clients. That led to clients and companies pushing back because they didn’t understand the value of what he brings to the table.
Today, he’s redefined “work,” inspired by people surrounding him who are passionate about what they do and willing to put their creations out into the world. Along with his work life improving, his personal life has too. He’s found more balance, with flexible hours at home that make him a better partner in his relationship.
Your priorities should be yours.
Key to this new balance was figuring out his priorities and making sure his energy went toward the things he really cared about. Today, he’s happier, knowing he’s not falling behind on his real priorities.
